FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • ARE YOUR PRODUCTS FOOD SAFE?
Yes! Once the resin is dry, it is perfectly safe for food to be placed on it. The brands of resin we use also mention “food safe/food grade” on the bottles. The wood is finished with Odies Oil. We don’t use polyurethane or other chemicals.
  • CAN YOU CUT ON THE BOARDS?
Yes you can, is the short answer. Most of our boards are made from cherry, walnut, and maple, which are types often used in traditional-style cutting boards. Like anything, the more you cut, the more likely it will leave marks. If you are going to cut, we’d suggest cutting on the wood section as opposed to the resin. We’d also suggest limiting cutting to light meat/cheeses/veggies. Most people do their “main” cutting on another board then transfer the food over. The boards are capable of heavier cutting, but if you want it to continue also looking like a piece of art, then limited or lighter cutting is recommended. We can also re-sand/re-finish the boards if needed!
  • WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED CARE AND MAINTENANCE?
Hand wash with soap and water. Occasionally reconditioning your board with some food grade mineral oil and wax is recommended, and will help it last for years. We use “Odies Oil” for all of our boards. It is a combination of oil and wax and does a great job. HOW OFTEN? Generally with a good coating of Odies Oil, if you pour some water on the board it will bead up and run off like a freshly waxed car. When the board is no longer “beading up” the water during washing, it would be a good time to re apply. If in doubt, you can also apply some. The wood can only absorb what it can hold so there is no concern on applying too often. Any additional questions on care please reach out.
